Cause

Every day, people are leaving (or not even looking to) the Church in these fragmented and disillusioned times. An unaddressed central piece of this problem is that Church leaders themselves receive insufficient pastoral care and guidance in their own spiritual formation, which leads to burnout and the erosion of hope and trust for the Church.

Help us strengthen local churches by walking alongside church leaders to apprentice them in daily habits of love towards God and neighbor, to form people who build the church's credibility in the way they embody Christ’s ongoing presence to the world. 

Organization

Shema is a group of creative pastors, theologians, and leaders who serve local churches and Christian organizations in San Diego neighborhoods.

We offer mentorship and spiritual direction on individual and small group levels, facilitate short-term cohorts and retreats aimed at learning and habituating key spiritual disciplines, create educational materials and interactive media for integrating daily habits and faith, and host community events aimed at awakening the desire for a more integrated life of love for God and neighbor.

Impact

Since 2019, we have apprenticed hundreds of ministry leaders who are pursuing an integrated life of Christian ministry in local churches and organizations, and we have ministered to thousands across local and online programs.

We are all called to strengthen the Church when she is wounded so she might more fully manifest the beauty of Christ to a disheartened world.

Apprenticeship Program

  • Drawing from ancient, monastic wisdom to help infuse your daily habits with the life of Christ.

    • 30 apprentices enrolled for 2023 at $350/month per apprentice

      • $35/month: Be one of 10 people sponsoring an apprentice

      • $87.50/month or $1050 one-time: Sponsor an apprentice’s first quarter

      • $350/month of $4,000 one-time: Sponsor an apprentice’s year with Shema

Church Development Program

  • Going beyond simply equipping via delivering strategies and programs and instead aiding the Christian formation of leaders within the Church.

    • 3 churches signed up for 2023, real cost is approximately $1,000 - $3,000/month (depending on # of staff)

      • $37.50 monthly or $450 one-time: Be one of 10 people sponsoring a pastor + church

      • $150 monthly or $1,800 one time: Sponsor a pastor’s monthly 1 on 1 costs for the year

      • $225 monthly or $2,700 one time: Sponsor a church’s monthly seminar for the year
